MCALLEN, TEXAS - The NBA D-League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that Robert Pack, who was an assistant coach during the 2008-09 season, has been hired as an assistant coach of the New Orleans Hornets.

"I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to coach in the NBA. It's always been my dream and to have the chance to do so in my hometown is something I'm really grateful for. I'm really excited to start and I just have to thank [Head] Coach [Byron] Scott for such a great opportunity. I also want to thank the Vipers for giving me a chance to grow and improve myself as a coach. This is what the D-League is all about," Pack said.

In his lone season with the Vipers, Pack helped the team to a record of 21-29.

Pack played 13 seasons as a point guard in the NBA, averaging 8.9 points, 4.6 assists and 2.0 rebounds in 552 games. He played in 29 games for the Hornets during the 2002-03 season, averaging 5.2 points and 2.9 assists.

Pack finished fourth on the all-time assists list (319) at the University of Southern California, despite playing just two seasons. He was also the fourth player in school history to record back-to-back 100-assist seasons. He averaged 13.4 points and 5.6 assists per game while at USC.

Pack started his collegiate career in Texas, leading Tyler Junior College to a 50-11 record over the course of two seasons.
